About Us
InstrumentsNE was originally formed as Closs Associates in 1991
and recently changed the name to better reflect the type of business
and geographic territory. However, in some cases we are taking
orders world wide. (See Ocean Optics below) The original goal
of the company, which is still very true today was to become a
team member with the manufacturer and to provide client services
as an extension of the manufacturer. The airplane in the logo
is a real tool we use to quickly and easily access customers up
and down the East Coast and into the Mid-West. As noted at the
top of the Homepage of this website, our
goal is to be your customer advocate, a single point of contact
that will make your instrument selection process, purchase, installation,
training, and post sales support process easy for you. It should
be noted that for those distributed products, we recently added
credit card payment capability.
Our first product line was ICP-MS made by Turner Scientific
which was a spin-off from the then VG Instruments in the UK.
This was popular with the US National Research Labs and some
specialized commercial customers due to the advanced features
of the design. Both of these companies have since gone through
corporate changes and evolution and are no longer in the current
marketplace.
Added shortly after Turner Scientific in 1992 was the Jobin
Yvon (JY) optical emission line of ICP’s and Glow Discharge
instruments which was bought by Horiba recently. It is a good
match since Horiba brings additional engineering and corporate
resources to the new partnership, and all of the historical
JY products have been upgraded by new and improved electronics,
while maintaining their outstanding optical design. InstrumentsNE
also sells the Horiba C/S, and O/N/H dedicated analyzers. The
HoribaJY ICP line is especially popular in the Earth Sciences
research laboratories for it’s very high resolution and
low detection limit capabilities.
At this same time period we started developing expertise in
Microwave Sample Preparation to compliment the aqueous sample
format needed for ICP, ICP-MS, and AA analysis. This started
with Questron Corporation, and later on with Milestone Inc,
and more recently with Berghoff. MWD technology has now evolved
into being almost automated with both pressure and temperature
readouts available to the user for each digestion vessel in
the system.
Buck
Scientific was added to the product line-up in 1993 to address
the affordable and basic instrumentation market , which it still
does today very successfully. The Buck product line-up includes
AA, AAGF, IR, GC, HPLC, Hg, Arsenic, and HC analyzers, and the
Berghoff Microwave Digestion product line. All of the Buck products
can be demonstrated in the field, or at the Buck lab, and in
regional seminars hosted by the infamous ‘Dr. Demento’
A recent Addition in 2005 to our product lines is Ocean Optics,
based in Dunedin, FL. This is a very interesting and highly
successful miniature spectrometer manufacturer that we are very
pleased to work with as a Distributor. In this case, InstrumentsNE
takes orders directly from customers, and Ocean Optics drop
ships to the customer. Orders and payment are sent to InstrumentsNE.
Ocean Optics has sold over 65,000 miniature spectrometers in
the past 15 years, and is very active in developing OEM relationships
and synergistic partnerships. In addition to miniature spectrometers,
Ocean Optics also provides , accessories, prepackaged absorbance
and fluorescence systems, LIBS systems, Fiber Optics, Light
Sources, Sensors, and probes.
PS Analytical is an old friend that we are getting reacquainted
with in 2006. Peter Stockwell and family have been building
state of the art Mercury analysis intstruments for many years,
and are well ahead of the regulatory industry with their products.
Their US headquarters are based in Florida, with sales worldwide.
In 2006 we are discussing representation with several other
instrument manufactures, and these will be announced shortly
when contracts are completed.
